Boulangerie Lafi
Boulangerie Lafi: Good Vibes, Good Bread
Mission
In the heart of culinary ambition lies Boulangerie Lafi, where the name itself holds significance. In the Mole language of Burkina Faso—a small, landlocked country in West Africa—“Lafi” conveys warmth and positivity, translating to “good,” “good vibes,” or even a cheerful “hey!” This ethos drives the bakery’s mission to spread joy through its bread, reminding patrons that each loaf carries a deeper purpose.
About Boulangerie Lafi
Opened in April 2013 by the talented owner and chef Yuta Deai, Boulangerie Lafi is a natural bread workshop that prioritizes quality and flavor. The bakery employs a meticulous process that involves a lengthy fermentation of Hokkaido wheat, allowing the grain’s rich flavors to fully develop. With a remarkable repertoire of around 50 different types of baked goods, Boulangerie Lafi offers everything from robust hard breads to delightful pastries, sandwiches, and croissants. Each product is crafted using local ingredients, resulting in an array of unique and original creations that reflect the region’s culinary heritage.
Chef Yuta Deai: A Culinary Journey
Yuta Deai, born in 1983, is the visionary behind Boulangerie Lafi. After completing his university education in 2006, he honed his skills at a bakery in Sapporo. His journey took an adventurous turn when he served as a JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteer in Burkina Faso from 2008 to 2010, an experience that undoubtedly influenced his approach to baking. Upon his return, he worked at Furano Marche Cazele until the opening of Boulangerie Lafi in 2013. In 2022, he expanded his horizons further by training at a prestigious bakery in Paris, France. Anticipation builds as a new store is set to open in 2024, promising even more delights for bread lovers.
