Dream House Kingyo: A Place of Karaoke, Community, and Celebration

An Evolving Venue for Every Occasion

Dream House Kingyo stands as more than just a karaoke bar. While its primary function is to host nightly gatherings where patrons can sing their hearts out, it has also transformed over time into a versatile event space. Whether it’s a wedding reception, club meeting, neighborhood association event, karaoke competition, or even a dance party, Dream House Kingyo has welcomed all sorts of occasions.

A Space for Every Emotion

Since its opening in 1997, Dream House Kingyo has become a haven for people seeking more than just a good night out. The bar attracts a diverse clientele—some come to celebrate, others to reflect. It’s a place where individuals with a spectrum of experiences, from heartaches to triumphs, can gather, relax, and share in something communal. The core philosophy of the venue is simple: leave your worries at the door, enjoy some music, exchange stories, and share a few laughs.

Whether you’re someone in need of a shoulder to cry on, a place to unwind after a long day, or a venue to belt out your favorite song, Dream House Kingyo is the kind of place where the everyday stressors of life seem to melt away.

A Dream Realized: The Story Behind the Name

The journey to Dream House Kingyo began with two friends in 1995, when they opened a bar called “Pub Snack PM9.” With a motto of “Rolling Stone,” they envisioned creating a lively, dynamic place for people to gather and connect. By 1997, the manager had embarked on a solo venture, opening Dream House Kingyo.

But why “Kingyo” (meaning “goldfish” in Japanese)? The owner was frequently asked this. The answer is rooted in the imagery goldfish evoke—elegance, grace, and something memorable. Goldfish, with their delicate beauty, seemed to resonate well with the dreamy, relaxed atmosphere the owner wished to create. Combining “Dream House” with “Kingyo” was an intentional move to foster a sense of fantasy and charm.

Interestingly, there was one unforeseen consequence: elementary school children, mistaking the bar for an actual shop selling goldfish, would wander in looking to buy the aquatic creatures!

The Bar Expands: A New Chapter

In 2005, Dream House Kingyo underwent a major transformation, relocating to a larger venue to better accommodate the vision of a multi-purpose event space. The current venue, with seating for 100 people, a stage, and a dance area, offers an ambiance reminiscent of nostalgic dance halls. The goal has always been to provide a space that can cater to both younger and older generations alike, blending the vibrancy of youth with the refined sensibilities of a time gone by.

The Manager’s Vision: Bonding Over Karaoke

One of the quirkiest yet most heartwarming traditions at Dream House Kingyo involves the handling of microphones. Unlike most karaoke bars, microphones here are not simply handed out to each person who wishes to sing. Instead, they are passed around by patrons, creating an unexpected sense of camaraderie. By sharing the microphone, connections are made—people bond over a shared love of music and the simple act of singing together.

The Stage: Where Everyone Feels Like a Star

The experience at Dream House Kingyo is enhanced by its professional sound and lighting equipment, the same used for its larger events. Singing karaoke here isn’t just a casual activity—it’s a full experience. The lighting, the stage, and the acoustics are designed to make every singer feel like a star. For many, that initial moment of standing in the spotlight might be intimidating, but once the music starts, the magic begins. It’s common to hear guests exclaim, “Singing at Kingyo makes me feel like a star!”

A Goldfish’s Delicate Symbolism

The symbol of the goldfish continues to guide the philosophy of the bar. Just as goldfish are delicate but resilient, the bar strives to create a place that is both gentle and strong, inviting its patrons to rise above their troubles in a welcoming, serene environment.
